✝️ Tanya Marlo Holyk, age 20 – October 29 1996, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦💔
Tanya liked basketball, and other sports. She loved to read and enjoyed doing book reports in school.
Tanya lived some years in her teenager years with her cousin in Downtown Vancouver. She later found out about having a younger half-sister that had been put out for adoption by her mother. At one point Tanya left Vancouver to life with her half-sisters family in the small village of Klemtu, located on Kitasoo Indian Reserveon Swindle Island. She seemed to enjoy her life there, but as she was growing older things became difficult for her there, so she went back to Vancouver.
Tanya got pregnant and gave birth to a baby boy, Gary. The father of the child was abusive and got her hooked on drugs. But Tanya wanted to become clean for her son, whom she adored. She was clean for two months, but then after months of trying to find a job, her desperation took her back to her addiction and prostitution.
In August 1995 Tanya called her half-sister from a detoxification center and pleaded her to allow her and her son back into their home, because she did not want to go back to the streets of Vancouver. Although a tentative agreement was made, somehow the plan fell through.
Police believe she met up with serial killer Robert Pickton on October 29 1996. Her mother reported her missing on November 3 1996. She was told by the police to not bother them and waste their time. They believed she was out somewhere “having fun”. They also suspected that she was attempting to escape the responsibilities of caring for her 11-month-old son, Gary.
When police investigated Robert Pickton’s property in 2002, her DNA was found on the walls of a freezer in his workshop.
