Manikandan, age 26, killed Velli when she asked for more money. He had contacted a pimp who arranged Velli to visit him at home. When they argued Manikandan hit Velli on the head with a hammer and left her bleeding profusely on the floor.
He later dragger her body inside the washroom and left it there. He turned off her mobile phone and slept. When he woke up, he wiped off the blood stains and used room spray to get rid of the odour.
When he got a call from his family, that they were on their way back home, he purchased a suitcase from a nearby shop, placed the body inside and left it at a construction site. The next day, workers arriving at the construction site saw stray dogs around the suitcase with flies on it. The police found the severed body parts when they opened the suitcase.
