✝️ Michaela Kate Dunn, age 24 – August 13 2019, Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺💔

Michaela was a former Rosebank College and Notre Dame university student from Sydney’s west. She worked at Lidcombe’s Ten Pin City from the age of 16 to 20, Prostitution helped fund her international travels to Sri Lanka and Coachella music festival in California.

Tom Galea, the principal of Rosebank College, remembered Michaela as a “highly successful and much valued student” at the school.

“She was one of four social justice captains in her graduating year and an accomplished student with a passionate commitment to excellence who received academic merit awards in her studies. She was seen as a mature, resilient young woman and a positive role model.”

A friend on social media wrote:

“You would brighten up anywhere you went just by your presence; and now the world is truly a much darker place. I love you Mik’s, so much.”

Michaela was stabbed to death in the apartment she was operating out by her client Mert Ney, age 20, who slit her throat. There were 20 to 30 stab wounds on her body. Ney had a history of mental health issues. After the murder, Ney took a graphic video of himself standing over his bloodied, deceased victim. „I’m f***ing psycho“ he wrote after sending the clip to a man on social media. „I was laughing bro. The fear.“ After murdering Michaela, Ney put on a balaclava and ran through the Sydney CBD as he waved around his butcher’s knife.

Ney, from Marayong, near Blacktown in western Sydney, was arrested on Tuesday after he allegedly stabbed 41-year-old Linda Bo at a hotel in the CBD and was later restrained by members of the public – lauded as “heroes” by police – who used cafe chairs and a milk crate to pin him down. About an hour after his arrest, Michaela’s body was found.

Ney was charged with murder, attempted murder and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm over the August 13 incident. He was also charged with possessing child abuse material and 1.6 grams of cannabis on the day of the deadly attack. The material was found on a USB stick allegedly in his possession during the rampage. Material on the USB stick also was suggesting he had „some ideologies“ in relation to terrorism, and information of mass casualties from North America and New Zealand.

Ney said he repeatedly watched footage of the Christchurch massacre because he had a „real bad obsession to watch really bad acts,“ and added that he never agreed with the perpetrators or their message. His other addictions, he said, included gambling, seeing prostitutes, taking tablets and watching pornography excessively.
