Nadine was addicted to crack cocaine.
She had encountered violence before, when she was attacked in fall 2009 by a man who put a belt around her neck, and a man with a gun threatened her before that.
Nadine was murdered by Steven Elliot Laffin. He was a few days short of marrying his fiancee, who was out of town at that time. He brought Nadine to their home, later the ex-wife found blood splatter all over the basement. To explain the blood, Laffin told her he’d been mugged in the driveway and went down the basement to clean up so as not to mess up the rest of the house.
He was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 13 years.
