Andreea was born in Hunedoara, Transylvania. She arrived in Italy with her husband, with two children, one and three years old, who lived with her parents in Romania.
Andreea lived in a rented house together with her husband just a few kilometers from the bridge under which she would be killed by Riccardo Viti, age 55.
Andrea was found stripped naked and pinned up against a metal barrier in a style reminiscent to that of a crucifixion.
Sources in the investigation said evidence shows that the dead woman was sexually abused before she was taped to the iron bar and then abandoned. The allegations are supported by numerous bruises on her arms and back, showing that she tried hard to free herself. A local police inspector said she had a terrible and slow death from internal bleeding.
Viti, who is charged with murder, sexual assault and kidnapping, is suspected of carrying out as many as nine other rapes of prostituted women, police have said. Viti’s DNA was found on three other raped prostitutes in addition to Andreea.
For the services of Andreea, Viti had agreed upon a reward of 30 euros. The man, who admitted to having been in the habit of frequenting prostitutes since 2005, said that at the beginning he paid them 100 euros but then, after becoming unemployed, he had scaled back his budget.
Viti was sentenced to 20 years for the rape, torture and murder.
