Donna was a Filipina immigrant, who came to Canada as a baby.
Donna was four months pregnant with a boy at the time of the murder.
She split her time between Vancouver and Toronto and dreamt of buying a house on the West Coast and was in prostitution to peddle herself to make it happen. She was in Toronto since five weeks and wanted to return to Vancouver the next week. She was strangled to death by a john. Her corpse was discovered in a damp parking lot.
DNA of the perpetrator did not match anyone in the national data bank. Police used investigative genetic geneology to track down the accused man’s family last year and have used that technology to solve several cold cases over the last months. Ronald Gordon Ackerman could be identified as perpetrator.
