Sylvia, who was from Toronto, was mother of three childen, who no longer lived with her. She was addicted to drugs and had difficulties with mental health. She lived in a community housing in Rexdale
Sylvia was brutally sexually assaulted with an object, beaten and suffocated to death by her client Najib Amin, age 31. He had inflicted devastating internal injuries on Sylvia and smothered her before paying a “final degrading insult“: Unopened condoms had been scattered over her body.
Amin wrongly believed that Sylvia was HIV positive and had given HIV to three people, including his friend and his brother, through unprotected sex. But Sylvia was never HIV positive.
Amin had faced charges for home invasions in the past and was one of three suspects charged for robbing a house and stabbing a 24 year old man in Mississauga in June 2015. Amin was convicted with first-degree murder and sentenced for life with no chance of parole.
