Bang-On was murdered with several stabs with a bread knife in the brothel she was prostituted in. She was able to carry yourself outside to the street and told the police before she died that the perpetrator was a dark-haired danish men.
DNA and fingerprints were found at the crime scene, but more than 2000 interrogations did not lead to success in terms of finding the perpetrator.
The double-murder of Natalija Ivanova and Bang-On Nielsen led to an extensive investigation uncovering large scale human trafficking of eastern european women to Denmark. Eight charges against traffickers were brought to court.
