Melissa grew up in upstate New York, graduated in Buffalo and after school got her cosmetology license. At the age of 20 she left to live in the Bronx. She lived in a tiny apartment together with her five cats.
She dreamed of having her own business and wanted to make money for this purpose.She advertised on Craigslist offering sexual service for money. She also worked the streets at Seventh Avenue north of 48th Street in front oft he strip clup Lace under the control of a pimp, who had taken her to New York.
On the night she went missing, she met with a client, deposited $900 in her bank account and attempted to call an old boyfriend, but did not get through.
Beginning one week after her disappearance, and lasting for five weeks, her teenage sister, Amanda, received a series of „vulgar, mocking and insulting“ calls from someone who may have been the killer, using her sister’s cell phone.
Melissa was murdered by serial killer Rex Heuermann.
