✝️ Renate Troger, age 18 – March 21 1992, Bolzano, Italy 🇮🇹💔

Renate was murderd by serial killer Marco Bergamo (The Monster of Bolzano).

Ever since childhood, Bergamo lived with complications: at the age of 4, he stuttered, and later on was obese and suffering from a skin disease, turning him into a shy introvert. He subsequently collected numerous items, including knives — and always carried a knife. After starting work as a welder and carpenter, at the age of 26, in May 1992, he underwent surgery to remove one of his testicles.

Bergamo murdered five women between 1985 and 1992, including a 14-year-old student and four prostitutes, the eldest of whom was 41.

Bergamo was stopped by two police officers after leaving Bolzano at about 6:00 a.m. — shortly after the last murder on 6 August 1992, also his 26th birthday. He claimed to be en route from Volta. The authorities immediately suspected Bergamo. The passenger seat had bloodstains and missing padding; they found a document in the trunk belonging to the last victim; and noted a missing rear-view mirror, later found at the crime scene.

On 8 March 1994, International Women’s Day, Bergamo was convicted for life imprisonment.
After spending 24 years in various institutions due to issues related to maximum security, on 15 February he was transferred to the prison of Bollate, the second prison house in Milan.

At 51, while serving his sentence at the Bollate prison near Milan, Bergamo asked the hospital’s director to be urgently transferred, where he was found to have a serious lung infection. After 10 days he went into a coma, dying on 17 October 2017, without reawakening.
