Nikola was from Coalville, Leicestershire originally and moved to Stoke-on-Trent in the mid 1990s.
Nikola was homeless and was sleeping on the streets with an abusive boyfriend, who was barred from all housing registers and cause Nikola wouldn`t leave him, no one was able to house her. But prior to her death she was determined to turn her life around.
Nicola was strangled and beaten to death and then dumped in the drive of Tunstall cemetary by her client Alan Jeffrey McLaren, age 42. McLaren picked up Nikola in the Hanley area of Stoke-on-Trent, and drove her to a garage where he worked as a night-time security guard. Post mortem reports reveal he inflicted severe head injuries before strangling her with a telephone cable.
McLaren was convicted to a life sentence, with a minimum of 18 years in 2006. He had also admitted to raping a 21 year old prostituted women in 1999. The judge told McLaren how psychiatric reports revealed a sadistic, sexual element to the attacks. He ordered that McLaren should sign the Sex Offenders‘ Register indefinitely.
