Marcella was mother of a 9 month old daughter, Dionne.
Marcella was last seen getting into a vehicle. She was murdered by her client Paul Brumfitt, age 43. Brumfitt had also raped two other prostituted women shortly after he murdered Marcella. He had come out of prison after being jailed for life in 1980 for the murder of a shopkeeper in Tilbury, Essex, and a bus driver in Denmark. He also admitted attacking a 31-year-old pregnant mother with a candlestick after breaking into her home in Heswall, Wirral.
Senior police officer Edward Crew strongly criticised the prison service:
„Apart from the massive cost of police investigations, it seems inconceivable that a man who has previously been convicted for a litany of offences since 1968, including two counts of manslaughter and wounding for which he re ceived three life sentences, can still be allowed to wander around the streets.“ Michael Sherrard QC, the prosecuting barrister at the Old Bailey trial, said he was horrified Brumfitt had ever been set free: ‚It was clear to me in 1980 that Brumfitt had all the hallmarks of a serial killer. I am horrified to hear he has been released and it has happened again.‘
