Stephanie was homeless at the time of her death. Her relatives lived in Arizona. Stephanie had been reported missing from Phoenix, Arizona in April 2012.
Stephanie was strangled to death by Javier Hernandez, age 29. She was found in a vacant detached garage next to Javier`s home. Hernandez strangled Stephanie to death and set her body on fire. Prior to burning her body, and aquaintance of Hernandez allegedly has „participated in a sex act“ with Stephanie`s lifeless body. A witness told police Hernandez appeared excited and full of “adrenaline” after committing the crime.
Stephanie`s body was so badly burned that the only identifying information police had was a part of her back that was not burned. That portion of her back had a tattoo and a photo of it was shared with the media
