Irma was strangled to death. At approximately 3:41 a.m., police officers responded to the lobby at 214 63rd Street with reports of an unconscious woman. Officers found Irma at the door without a pulse and took her to Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 4:20 a.m.
Edwin Orlando Velasco-Salazar, age 22, was charged with murder, sexual assault, felony murder, and endangering an injured victim. Velasco-Salazar pleaded guilty on October 25, 2021.
He was sentenced to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
