Carmen was last seen getting into a dark car with a man in Harlem.
Carmens‘ remains would be found at the side of the road along the Meadowbrook State Parkway, in Freeport, weeks later on September 11. Her ankles and wrists were bound with a cord. A towel covered her face, a rope was tied around her neck, and she was missing three of her front teeth. A cause of death could not be definitively determined because her remains were so badly decomposed, but evidence shared with her family leads them to believe she was strangled to death.
Carmen was not positively identified until 1992.
She ist a possible victim of serial killer Rex Heuermann.
