The last time Klaressa’s sister heard from her was about five months prior to her death. Klaressa had told her sister that she was living in Minnesota, working at a car dealership and living in a hotel. Klaressa had moved out of her mother’s home in Gainesville, Ga., several months before that last call to live with a boyfriend: “They traveled and everything. … He was really rich. He took her to Los Angeles, New York, stuff like that” before they broke up.”
Klaressa was murdered by Alberto Palmer, age 25. Palmer had been a fugitive from beating and sexual assault crimes in Georgia. He was wanted for three attacks on escorts. When Palmer made his initial court appearance prosecutors argued for a high bail, saying that Palmer had tried to contact 30 to 40 women through backpage.com during the short time he was in Minnesota before his arrest. In one of the cases in which he was charged, Palmer met a woman on backpage.com, had sex with her, then beat and bound her and stuffed her in a closet overnight. He then had sex with her while she was bound the next morning, wrapped her in a blanket and “severely beat her,”
Palmer testified in court that he met Klaressa Cook and arranged to have sex for money with her. Afterward, he tried to take back his money from her. He slammed her into a wall and beat her with his fists until she stopped breathing. Her body was found in a car towed to an impound lot in Minneapolis.
Palmer was sentenced to 80 years in prison for killing Klaressa and Britanny Clardy.
